Sandra asks…

Do I need to have local phone service in order to subscribe to vonage?

I building an office from scratch and need to know as much as possible about setting up utilities, address, etc..

Ed answers:

No, you can do everything on the Internet, when there ask you about a phone-number, just click new number…which is great…so you don’t have to wait to get a land-line ported!!! All you need is high-speed Internet or wifi-fixed…like clearwire.com

or even dry/naked DSL-line from Verizon will work!

Carol asks…

Besides Bellsouth and Cox Communications, how can I get local phone service without VOIP?

I have a small business in the New Orleans area and I need a phone line. I do not want VOIP (like vonage) or anything else that uses the internet. I need a real phone line. What companies provide phone service?

Ed answers:

Well BellSouth is an excellent company, but if you don’t want to have it try AT&T, it’s not VoIP, so try it maybe it would help to you.

But my best suggestion will be BellSouth.

William asks…

how to view certificate(s) of a LDAP server?

hi there,

if I connect to a https server, I can click on the icon(status bar) and find out which certificate(SSL/TLS) is installed on the server.

How can I do the same with a LDAP server ? Which (free/opensource) client can show me the certificate information to the connected LDAP server ?

Thank you very much for the info.

BR,
~A

Ed answers:

If you wish to examine the contents of a certificate, you can use:

openssl x509 -in ldap.cert -text -noout

OpenSSL is available for multiple platforms, please see the OpenSSL project at http://openssl.org for more information, the windows binaries are available on the openssl.org site in the “related” section.
